Diction

Again touching on the fact that the whereabouts of the creature are at this point unkown in the story, the creature returns with excellent diction and knowledge of the world. Examples of this supreme vocabulary for a two year old are: "I was beneveolent; my soul glowed with love and humanity; but am I not alone, miserably alone?" and, "Shall I not then hate them who abhor me?"(both pg. 69). Mary Shelley uses this change in diction to make us question how intelligent the creature really is. From what it looks like, it is not the babbling, roaming monster that is depicted in most cartoons and movies that we have seen.
