The Lottery

Every year, this town lines up and draws pieces of paper to see who wins the lottery. In this town, however, the lottery is not a good thing to win. The winner of it gets to be stoned. Not a good prize, at all. Everyone in the story seems so nonchalant about this terrible tradition. This story is seen through the point of view of the unlucky winner of the lottery that year. This puts sort of a tense view on the story as the grim ending starts to come into view. This particular story reminded me of a movie called The Island. When the people on this island won the lottery, they got to leave and go to a dream vacation island. However, the reality is that they were clones and winning the lottery meant that the originial version of them needed their organs for their own health. These stories are starting to make winning the lottery not sound so awesome anymore.
