The Apparition

This poem confused me. I think that he is talking about a former lover. This lover left him with feelings and he blames her for many things. "And since my love is spent, I'd rather thou shouldst painfully repent". He is wanting to move on, but again, she left him with feelings for her. An idea that I read in other peoples' blogs is that this is a sort of ghost visiting a former lover. This idea sounds much more on point than mine does, but then again, it is poetry and there can be many different meanings.
